Get the look: black and blue entryway

Hi all, it’s Kate Cabiltes. I am a fan of the aesthetic of Cortney Bishop Design, so much so that I’ve featured one of her bedrooms here previously. This entryway is eye catching but still clean and calming. I love the light wood floors and white shiplap walls layered with various textures and patterns. The unique shade of greenish blue makes just enough of a statement with the pops of black and white throughout. Roundup - Breakfast Room Pendants

Roundup - Breakfast Room Pendants

I am working on a friend's breakfast nook in her open kitchen area.  She has a modern vibe in her house - a little mid century, but maybe more sleek with a pop of color.  The ideal set up is a round pedestal table, clean comfy seating and a beautiful pendant above.  Here are a few we have been considering.   Bradford Cone Pendant :: Robinson 4 Arm Pendant :: Round Bamboo & Rattan Pendant :: Nassa Basket Pendant :: Light Rods Chandelier :: Woodstock LED Pendant Photo by Brynn Olson Design Group Read more

Roundup: Counter height bar stools

Roundup: Counter height bar stools

I've been on the hunt for a pair of fun stools for the end of our kitchen island at the #hotlantamidmod.  Luckily for me there are lots of counter height stools out there on the market now.  However, I think a lot of people still get confused about what size stool to buy for a kitchen.  Here are a few guidelines: A typical chair is about 18" high and it sits at a table that is about 30" high so usually the amount of space you have to tuck your legs under is somewhere around a foot or so (and tables... Get the Look: San Francisco Proper Hotel

Hey there, Kate Cabiltes here! This modern, fresh and quirky hotel lobby space really caught my eye when I spied it on my Instagram feed. The San Francisco Proper Hotel is filled with rooms that are easy on the eyes but the open lobby is especially inspiring to me. Outfitted in furniture and décor that is quite Anthropologie-esque in my humble opinion, the artwork filled gallery walls are chalk full of personality. It seems like every piece in this space could tell a story and a unique one at that. Looking forward to the day I can visit the west... Read more

Roundup: My Favorite Bedside Sconces

Roundup: My Favorite Bedside Sconces

Recently I've spent a lot of time looking at bedside sconces for our master bedroom and also for the kids' rooms. I really love a sconce at the bed. It offers directional lighting so one person can sleep while the other reads and it keeps our nightstand surface uncluttered which is key if you have a small nightstand.  Here are a few of my favorite bedside sconces right now (so many great affordable options). Clockwise from top left:  One Forty Three Swing Lamp :: Etsy Handmade Wooden Lamp Hook :: Ikea Nymane Wall Sconce :: Industry West Minaret Wall Sconce :: Urban Outfitters Chelsea Double Wall Sconce :: Amazon iYoee... Today she's showing us a roundup... Read more

Get the Look: Cheery White Playroom

Hi, it’s Kate Cabiltes! I’m loving the clean look of this organized dedicated children’s playroom designed by Connecticut-based artist and interior designer Kerri Rosenthal. And while she has undeniable talent, it would still be achievable to create a similar look in your space. I can appreciate how much storage has been added for all the toys and tchotchkes by installing those custom shelves on each side and anchoring them with decorative rope is such a nice touch. Here’s how to get the look in your playroom… ROUNDUP IMAGE (ATTACHED) Light Pink Euro Sham via Collyer's Mansion Monstera Pillow via Rifle Paper Co... Read more

Having a Matisse Moment

Having a Matisse Moment

Illustration by Abbey Lossing I've been noticing a lot of Henri Matisse inspired items of late. I think it's sort of the more organic reaction to all of the colorful yet structured Memphis modern stuff going on.  In any case, I'm digging it and here are a few of my favorite iterations.
